Precision in Motion: Sit/Stand Conversion of Geiger Desks with 1.5” Worksurfaces
Converting premium fixed-height furniture to sit/stand functionality is no small task—especially when that furniture includes Geiger desks with 1.5” thick worksurfaces, solid wood detailing, and integrated keyboard tray. When a client presented the challenge to Tim in our Portland office, he didn’t just retrofit; he engineered a solution that preserved the original aesthetic and function while adding full height-adjustability.
To ensure the integrity of the design—especially the curved solid wood edge built into the worksurfaces—Tim brought a full desk setup into our warehouse and built a complete prototype. This hands-on approach allowed us to carefully explore all dimensions, tolerances, and movement requirements allowing us to integrate an Element Titan Pro three-leg electric base onto their worksurfaces.
We then reinforced the setup using C-leg kits, a top stiffener, and a custom heavy-duty flat bracket—resulting in a system as solid as the original, with the added benefit of smooth height adjustment. Once our custom shop modified the side surface to achieve the correct gap for safety purposes, we were ready to install this new desk on-site.
Despite the additional weight of the thick Geiger worksurfaces, the Element Titan Pro base performs flawlessly. Its powerful lift capacity and precision programming makes it easy to align desk heights exactly—whether matching the height of the adjacent surfaces or dialing in a custom sit to stand preference.
The result? A seamless transformation that maintains the integrity and craftsmanship of the original Geiger design, while meeting the workplace accommodation and ergonomic needs of the client’s and employee’s requirement.
This is another great example of "it's how we do it"
